Three Sisters Consulting has been working with the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) since 2018 on a Mental Wellness Team Development and Coordination project. The initiative aims to enhance mental wellness in Indigenous communities by fostering collaboration among AIAI’s seven member nations.

By creating a shared framework for mental wellness, this project helps communities access resources, develop training plans, explore new opportunities for capacity building, and strengthen their local Mental Wellness Teams. The contract has been renewed annually, reflecting the ongoing need for culturally responsive mental health support.

Scope of Work & Key Deliverables
Three Sisters Consulting continues to lead key efforts in this initiative, including:
  • Community Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: Facilitating connections between the seven AIAI member nations to share best practices, identify common challenges, and develop collective strategies for mental wellness.
  • Training Plan Development: Assisting communities in designing tailored training programs for mental wellness teams, ensuring culturally appropriate approaches to mental health support.
  • Capacity Building & Resource Coordination: Identifying funding opportunities, training resources, and new mental health initiatives to strengthen community-based wellness programs.
  • Ongoing Support & Strategic Advisory: Providing continued guidance to AIAI and its member nations to adapt and refine mental wellness strategies based on emerging needs and best practices.

Sarah Hopkins

Sarah Hopkins, our Matriarch, is Turtle Clan of the Lenni Lenape who were displaced from their homeland of Lenapehoking (New York City) to Eelŭnaapéewi Lahkéewiit (Delaware Nation) in southwestern Ontario. Sarah is a Day School survivor who was raised by her Mother, who taught her the importance of standing up for what you believe; her Grandmother, a residential school survivor; and her Great-Grandmother, who spoke only Lenape. With the support of her family, Sarah founded Three Sisters Consulting in 2018, a company dedicated to amplifying the voices of Indigenous Peoples and helping them achieve business, professional, and personal success. Sarah is an active member of her community; she served as an Elected member of Council for her Nation, Treasurer and Board Member for her tribal council, and current Board Member for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Lambton Kent chapter. She has worked with not-for-profits, governments, and corporations on a variety of topics including Indigenous legal systems, economic development, mining initiatives, Impact Benefit Assessments, negotiations, and Indigenous engagement impacting legislation. When she is not working, you can find Sarah looking for opportunities to share space with our extended community across Turtle Island.
